Introducing Ideas and a Trip to IKEA

The journey towards teaching has begun.  With a bit of admin, of course. 

But then we were straight into some ideas.  Firstly ideas about D&T, considering “what do I need to know to teach D&T?”  We discussed how D&T has previously been divided into separate applied disciplines (sometimes sub-divided into soft designy-type things and hard technology-type things) vs. an interdisciplinary approach that combines everything to achieve its aims.

We moved on to thinking about ideas of D&T – like materials, manufacture, functionality, design, critique, fundamental nature.

In the afternoon, we went shopping for the IKEA Challenge.
